Brutal Beating of Young Men and Women by Students Captured on DU TSC CCTV

Dhaka Correspondent, 27 February:

CCTV footage of an incident at Dhaka University’s Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) late Wednesday night, showing multiple students assaulting two young women and a young man, has surfaced on social media.

The video shows the three victims dismounting from a motorcycle, after which several students who were already present approach them. They then proceed to strike the victims with kicks, sticks, and helmets, and even deliver flying kicks. The assault reportedly lasted for about 25 minutes.

Two students involved in the attack have been identified so far: Ahmed Rakib from the Department of World Religion and Culture, 2023-24 batch, and Shahriar Tushar from the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies.

The Dhaka University administration has formed a three-member investigation committee. Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said that the video provides initial evidence supporting the allegations. Appropriate action will be taken if the claims are confirmed after the investigation.

The victims stated in the video that they do not feel safe even within the university campus and have fallen victim to assaults by Dhaka University students.
