Sir Keir Starmer, the UK Prime Minister, has outlined a clear position to ensure the safety of British communities and citizens across the country.

Speaking from Downing Street, he said:
“The United Kingdom played no role in these strikes. However, we have long been clear that the regime in Iran is utterly abhorrent. They have murdered thousands of their own people, brutally crushed dissent, and sought to destabilize the region. Even in the United Kingdom, the Iranian regime poses a direct threat to dissidents and the Jewish community.”

Over the past year alone, Iran has supported more than 20 potentially lethal attacks on UK soil. Starmer emphasized that preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon remains the primary goal of the United Kingdom and its allies, including the United States.

He added:
“We are deeply concerned about Iran’s attacks on regional partners today, many of whom are not parties to this conflict. We stand with them and reaffirm our commitment to the security of our allies in the Middle East.”

The UK has strengthened its defensive capabilities in the region. British forces are active, and UK aircraft are currently in the skies as part of coordinated regional defensive operations to protect people, national interests, and allies. In line with international law, protection for British bases and personnel has been raised to the highest level. UK nationals in the region are being contacted and fully supported.

Starmer has also been in communication with European leaders and regional partners, stressing that:
“It is vital to prevent further escalation and return to the diplomatic process. Our goal is peace, security, and the protection of civilian life.”

He made it clear that Iran can de-escalate the situation immediately:
“They should refrain from further strikes, abandon their weapons programs, and end the appalling violence and repression against the Iranian people, who deserve the right to determine their own future.”

The statement underscores the UK’s longstanding policy: while the country will not participate in military strikes, it is committed to regional stability and to supporting diplomatic solutions.
